So, the first episode is out and it was excellent

This is a New York mobster, a wise guy

I’ve never seen Farrell so invested in a character. I mean, yeah, he wears a fat suit, but you never know. His attitude, his body language, his voice make you dive into the character and just see Penguin. He has no relation to any of the other live-action TV penguins, Burgess Meredith or Robin Lord Taylor.

He’s a Scorsese mobster, but without the flowery language

The plot is simple, similar to Lord Taylor’s Penguin on the CW’s Gotham. The Penguin is a middle man in a mafia organization. So far he’s been doing his time, slowly rising through the ranks, and then, with the Riddler effects blowing up the city’s sea wall and the death of his boss in that movie, he sees a chance to move up in the world. Now the cross-over, double-crossing, and, I guess, triple-crossing begins.
