Windows 10 is a series of operating systems for personal computers produced by Microsoft as part of the Windows NT family of operating systems. It is the successor to Windows 8.1, released in production on July 15, 2015, and in retail sales on July 29. Devices in enterprise environments can receive these updates at a slower rate, or use long-term support phases where only critical updates, such as security fixes, are received during the ten-year extended support period.
.
One of the most notable features of Windows 10 is support for Universal Apps, an extension of Metro-style apps first introduced in Windows, embedded systems, Xbox One, Surface Hub, and Mixed Reality. The Windows user interface has been redesigned to provide a transition between a mouse-oriented interface and a touchscreen-optimized interface based on available input devices. In particular, on the 2-in-1 PC, both interfaces include an updated Start menu, which includes elements of the traditional Windows 7 interface. Windows 10 also features the Microsoft Edge web browser, a system of virtual desktops, a window and desktop management function called “Task View”, support for logging in with fingerprint and face recognition, new security features for enterprise environments and DirectX 12.
